Overview
- Mr G was employed by Harland & Wolff as an engine fitter for 10 years.
- Mr G was having difficulty at home with the telephone and had to increase the volume on his TV and radio.
- We were contacted to pursue a Noise Induced Hearing Loss claim.
- Mr G was awarded £7,520.70 in compensation for his hearing loss and tinnitus.
The Case
Mr G started working in the shipyard in the 1970s when he was in his early twenties. Mr G would have worked for up to 12 hours per day, and would have even found that he had to raise his voice in order to be heard by co-workers over the noise, yet no hearing protection was provided by his employer.
The Claim
Mr G contacted our specialist team in Reid Black solicitors to inquire as to whether any of his difficulties could be related to his time working with Harland & Wolff.
Our solicitor Danielle Catterson quickly began to gather evidence on Mr G’s behalf and arranged for him to be examined by an ENT consultant. The appointed ENT consultant advised us and Mr G that some of his ongoing difficulties were in fact due to the noise he was exposed to whilst working.
The Settlement
Solicitors appointed to act on behalf of Harland & Wolff arranged for Mr G to undergo an assessment with their ENT expert. Taking into account all medical evidence in the matter, Danielle was able to negotiate settlement in the sum of £7,520.70 for Mr G, an outcome which the client was very happy with.
