Warehouse & Factory Accident Claims, Northern Ireland
If you’re one of the many people working in warehouses and factories in Northern Ireland, you face potentially dangerous situations every day. In fact, 18% of all reported workplace injuries in Northern Ireland happen in the manufacturing sector. Machinery, forklift trucks and manual handling all create a risk of injury.
Your employer has a duty of care to you. They must put in place safety measures to protect you from the dangers of working in a warehouse or factory. If they didn’t and you’ve been injured as a result, you are entitled to make a claim.
Causes of Common Warehouse & Factory Accidents
Employees, maintenance workers and visitors can all fall victim to warehouse and factory accidents. While a wide range of workplace accidents happen in warehouses and factories, there are some common causes. They include:
- Slips, Trips and Falls — The most common type of workplace accident can be caused by spillages, obstructions and poor lighting, as well as working on ladders, platforms and roofs.
- Dangerous Machinery — Machinery that is poorly maintained, unsuitable for its use or being operated by someone without the correct training is the cause of many accidents. Forklift truck accidents are a common example of this.
- Manual Handling — Being asked to lift or move heavy or awkward objects can cause back injuries and other problems.
- Falling Objects — Unsafe storage, dangerous work at heights and inadequate PPE can lead to injuries caused by things falling.
- Exposure to Dangerous Substances — Working with chemicals and other dangerous substances used in manufacturing can cause illness or injury.
- Electric Shocks — Unsafe machinery and wiring may result in shocks, burns and other injuries.
Warehouse & Factory Accident Injury Claims
The various causes of warehouse and factory accidents lead to an equally wide range of injuries. Some of the most common types of warehouse and factory accident injury claims are:
- Soft Tissue Injuries
- Scars, Burns & Lacerations
- Broken Bones, Fracture & Dislocations
- Loss of Eyesight
- Repetitive Strain Injuries
- Tinnitus and Loss of Hearing
- Spine or Back Injuries

- Head and Brain Injuries
- Fatalities
Warehouse or Factory Injury Claim Eligibility
Anyone who has been injured in a warehouse or factory in which someone else was at fault is entitled to claim compensation. You can also claim on behalf of a loved one who has been injured in those circumstances.
Claiming for Yourself – If you were injured in a warehouse or factory because an employer failed in their duty of care to you, you can make a personal injury claim.
Claiming on Behalf of Someone Else – If a loved one was injured in a warehouse or factory and is unable to make a claim, you can claim on their behalf.
Warehouse & Factory Accident Claim Process
We’ve made our warehouse and factory accident claim process simple and straightforward. Our experienced solicitors will help you every step of the way.
Step 1: Contact Reid Black
Start your claim process by getting in touch for a no-obligation chat and free initial legal advice on your claim.
Step 2: Gathering Information and Evidence
When you give us the go-ahead, we’ll start gathering the evidence we need to support your claim. This might include medical records, police reports or reports from the Health and Safety Executive for Northern Ireland (HSENI), as well as evidence from your workplace.
Step 3: Medical Assessment
We’ll then arrange for you to be assessed by an independent medical professional to make sure we know the full extent of your injuries before making any claim.
Step 4: Compensation Negotiations
Once we fully understand your medical prognosis, we will open negotiations with your workplace’s insurance company to secure the maximum compensation to which you’re entitled.
Step 5: Compensation Payout
We will continue to support you to ensure the agreed payout amount reaches your account in a timely manner.
Factory & Warehouse Accident Claim Time Limits
You will usually have three years from the date of a warehouse or factory accident in Northern Ireland in which to make a claim. There are some variations to this.
18 years old and over – If you were aged 18 or over at the time of the accident you must claim within three years of the accident.
Under 18 years old – If you were aged under 18 at the time of the accident you must claim before your 21st birthday.
The deadlines for making a claim may be extended in exceptional circumstances. This might include being unable to make a claim within the usual timeframe because of your injuries or the at-fault party’s negligence only coming to light later.
In any case, we would always recommend that you get in touch as soon after an accident as possible to discuss your claim.
Factory & Warehouse Accident Compensation
The amount of compensation awarded for factory and warehouse accident claims varies depending on the injuries and circumstances involved. Your payout will depend on factors such as the amount of pain you endured and any long-term effects of the accident.
In all cases, there are two types of damages award:
General Damages – This is compensation for any physical and mental injuries you suffered as a direct result of the accident, including any long-term problems. The more serious the injuries, the more compensation you will receive.
Special Damages – This is compensation for out-of-pocket expenses and financial hardships you’ve endured because of the accident. It might include things like healthcare fees, travel expenses, loss of earnings and rehabilitation costs.
